My Journey to Lovely Professional University: A Story of Passion, Influence, and Decision-Making

Life is full of unexpected turns, and sometimes, our dreams and ambitions are challenged by the opinions of others. My journey toward higher education was no exception. After passing my 12th grade, I had a clear vision for my future—I wanted to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. Painting has always been my passion, something I deeply enjoyed and excelled at. However, my father had different plans for me.

A Detour from My Passion

Despite my desire to join a Fine Arts college, my father was not in favor of this decision. He believed that Fine Arts had limited career opportunities and encouraged me to opt for a more conventional academic path. Respecting his wishes, I took admission in Government Women College, Parade Jammu, for a Bachelor of Arts degree. Though I continued my studies, the passion for Fine Arts never left my heart.
Then came COVID-19, a time that made many people rethink their choices, including me. During the pandemic, I decided to switch back to my passion and planned to join a Fine Arts college in Jammu. I was determined to pursue what I truly loved, but once again, external influences changed my path.

The Influence That Changed Everything

One day, an uncle visited our home and had a conversation with my father about my education. He strongly discouraged the idea of Fine Arts, convincing my father that it had no future. Instead, he suggested that I apply for admission through the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS). Not only that, but he also specifically recommended Lovely Professional University (LPU) as the ideal place for my further studies.
With my father now convinced, I was encouraged to take admission in LPU. Though Fine Arts was my true calling, I decided to explore a different academic path and enrolled in B.A. Hons. in Geography at LPU. It was a big shift, but I accepted it as a new opportunity to grow and learn.

A Message to All Students: Follow Your Passion

Through my journey, I have realized one important lesson—while advice from family and well-wishers is valuable, the ultimate decision about your future should be yours. Passion is what drives excellence, and true success comes when you pursue what you genuinely love.
If you have a dream, hold onto it. If you are passionate about something, fight for it. The world is full of opportunities, and every career has a scope if you put in the effort and dedication. Do not let anyone manipulate you into believing otherwise. Your life is yours to shape, so make sure you create a path that truly reflects who you are and what you love to do.
In the end, I have embraced my journey and am making the most of my time at LPU. However, my heart still beats for Fine Arts, and I know that in some way or another, I will always be connected to painting.
To everyone reading this—choose your own aim, follow your dreams, and never let external influences deter you from what makes you happy.
